Set about 2 km downstream from Agapia Monastery, in a place hidden in the rich vegetation of the forest, Old Agapia Hermitage can be reached either by car or by foot, following a marked path through the forest. The road to the hermitage starts from Agapia Village, nearby the tourist mark to Sihla Hermitage. From this mark, turn right and cross the village.
A particularly beautiful place is “The Parents’ Orchard” located about 500 meters from the church of the old monastery, where the first hermitage was innitially buit. This building was destroyed on a Easter day by an avalanche. Nowadays, only a cross remains to remind us of that fateful day. The relics of Holy Fathers Rafail and Partenie also lie to rest at Old Agapia Hermitage. What is more, the famous painter Nicolae Grigorescu spent time living and learning here.
