Description

It is a reservoir created in 1966 with the purpose of producing electricity. Together with Pângărați Lake, it is one of the first accumulation lakes on the Bistrita River and is an important area for birds moving on the Eastern Carpathian migration corridor. This lake provides favorable feeding and shelter conditions during wintertime for many migratory bird species. In recent years this lake has established winter quarters species such as mute swans, mallards, common goldeneyes and grebes. Along with these specimens, there were also seen ones such as : northern pintails, ferruginous duck, common pochards, but also the largest whooper swan population that spent the winter here.
